Digital Design _ Lab

Strong from a solid background in traditional art and techniques, I more recently started to transfer these skills to the digital world. Digital sculptures of course, but also my lifelong passion for the type of surfaces that prevail in product, automotive, aerospace and medical devices. The level of sophistication remains the same, but mathematics are introduced to the mix in the form of continuity, constraints, construction tolerances and various diagnostic tools. It's a challenge to maintain aesthetics as the goal regardless of the frame imposed by the technical side. I'm very passionate about this domain and apporach it in a research/laboratory spirit.
The above image is a screen capture of one of the models I created as my NURBS laboratory.
Hyperbike
Hyperbike! My passion for motorcycles knows no end. This one of my many visions for what the future may hold.
Once mastered, NURBS allow perfectly smooth surfaces.
A more realistic render. While photorealism is always pleasing to the eye, I personally focus on the sculpting part.
Apple VR Headset
Apple inspired lightweight VR headset.
While zebras don't tell the whole story in terms of surface quality, this surface diagnostic tool highlights potential visual breaks between NURBS patches.
Coffee Table
From a very unsophisticated construction on the left, I entirely hand shape surfaces, introducing acceleration and other qualities that give the final shape an organic yet structured quality. Notice how light sculpts the object for maximum visual presence.
Advanced surface diagnostic tools are used to make sure the maths correspond to what we see. Digital tools allow me to see beyond, in a very graphical way.
